Previously, Awardco admins configuring a recognition program could set nomination limits. This allowed control over how frequently a user could receive points or recognition within a defined timeframe and remains a useful feature for individual recognition programs. Now, Global Receiving Limits offer a way to set universal restrictions that apply to all methods of receiving points across the entire platform. Continue reading for detailed information on Global Receiving Limits, including how to access, configure, and manage these limits, as well as answers to frequently asked questions.

Use Cases
- Company-Wide Budget Control: Set a maximum number of points a user can receive annually to stay within budget.
- Tax Considerations: Limit the annual point accrual to avoid exceeding specific tax thresholds for bonuses.
- Regulatory Compliance: For government agencies, restrict point allocation to comply with bonus regulations.
- Executive Exclusion: Prevent C-Suite executives from receiving points-based recognition.
- Ineligible Employee Exclusion: Exclude part-time employees, contractors, or interns from receiving points.
- Employee Type Tiers: Implement different point limits for various employee types (e.g., $1,000 per year for full-time, $500 per year for part-time).
Note: Manual adjustments made to point balances don't count towards/are not halted by global receiving limits.
Accessing the Global Receiving Limits Tool
To access the Global Receiving Limits settings:
- Select the Admin button at the bottom of the left navigation menu.
- From the left navigation menu, select “Recognition,” "Programs," then "Recognition Programs.”
- Click the Settings tab.
- Scroll to the bottom of the page.
Adding Receiving Limits
To create a receiving limit rule:
- Click + Add Rule.
- Enter a name for the rule (maximum 50 characters).
- Determine which employees or groups the limit will apply to:
- All Users: Applies to all users included in Awardco data imports.
- Selected Users: Search for and manually add a small group of users.
- By Role: Limit the rule based on specific user roles.
- By Metadata: Set limits based on employee metadata. To do this:
- Select a metadata header from the dropdown menu.
- Choose Is or Is Not from the second dropdown.
- If Is is selected, choose a specific metadata value in the third dropdown to apply the rule only to users with that value. If Is Not is selected, the rule will exclude users with that metadata value.
- Select the desired metadata.
- Specify the maximum number of points an employee in this group can receive within a specific timeframe.
- Choose whether to limit by the base platform currency or by points.
- Set the limit period: Monthly, Quarterly, Semi-annually, Annually, or Rolling Period.
- Applying a rolling date range offers a flexible timeframe (for example, a 90-day window) that can start on a custom date, such as January 1st, instead of a fixed period like a month or quarter.
- Explore more advanced options for creating global receiving limit rules by clicking the Advanced Settings button.
- Apply receiving limits based on the giver type:
- Limit points a user can receive from another user: This prevents a single user from awarding an excessive number of points to another.
- Limit points a manager can receive from their direct reports: This helps prevent potential conflicts of interest in the recognition process.
- Limit points a direct report can receive from their manager: This helps prevent potential favoritism in the recognition process.
- Click Save.
Note: You cannot combine different types of limited groups within a single rule. Create a separate rule for each group type you wish to limit.
Managing Receiving Limits
To edit or archive an existing receiving limit rule:
- Click the stacked dots icon next to a rule and select Archive or Edit.
- In the Archived tab, click the stacked dots icon next to a rule to Restore or Edit.

- MemoryBooks: If a MemoryBook with points does not process due to receiving limits, this will appear in the MemoryBooks queue in Queues.
