- Click on Slack.
- Under Connection Settings, click Connect to Slack within the Integration Status section.
- You'll be redirected to Slack's website to complete the integration.
-
Log in to Slack and click Allow on the permissions page. Learn more about the Awardco app in Slack's Marketplace.
- Once connected, return to your Awardco platform. The integration status should now display as "Active".
- In the Settings section, you can change the specific channel in your Slack workspace where public recognitions will be posted.
Note: A Slack workspace can only be connected to a single Awardco platform. If your organization uses multiple Awardco platforms, you'll need to choose one for the integration. If you have any questions, please contact your Awardco representative.
Connecting Your Slack and Awardco Accounts
- Open Slack.
- In any Direct Message or Channel in Slack, type "/recognize" and hit enter.
-
A message will appear directing you to connect your Slack and Awardco accounts. Click the Connect Account button.
- The link will take you to your Awardco platform, where your connection will be automatically authenticated once you log in.
-
A confirmation screen will appear, indicating that your accounts are now connected and ready for recognition.
Note: Employees must link their Awardco and Slack accounts individually. Non-admins can follow the "Send Recognition in Slack" section for setup guidance.
Setting up Multi-Channel Posting for Slack
Recognitions can be posted to different channels based on the recipient's metadata. To set this up:
- Select the Admin button at the bottom of the left navigation menu.
- From the left navigation menu, click Integrations, then Integrations Library.
- Click on Slack.
- Click the Channel Settings tab.
- Configure Default and Metadata-Specific Channels:
- Default Channel: Choose a channel where recognitions will be posted if the recipient's metadata doesn't match any of your defined rules. You can leave this blank if you only want recognitions to post based on matching metadata.
- Add Rule: Select a metadata field and define a rule. Then, choose the specific public Slack channel where recognitions meeting this rule should be posted.
- Assign Metadata Values: For each rule, specify the metadata values that will trigger posting to the selected channel. Note that a single metadata value can only be associated with one channel.
Feed Settings
To customize how recognitions appear in the Slack channel feed:
- Select the Admin button at the bottom of the left navigation menu.
- From the left navigation menu, click Integrations, then Integrations Library.
- Click on Slack.
- Click the Feed Settings tab.
- Recognize Someone Button: Turn this feature on to add a "Recognize Someone" button to all recognition posts in the feed. This is recommended if all users have the ability to give recognition.
- View in Awardco Link: Enable this option to include a direct link to the recognition within the Awardco platform at the end of each Slack post.
- Multimedia Posting: Enable this to allow images, GIFs, and videos to be included in recognitions posted to Slack.
- Profile Tagging: Turn this on to make user names in recognition posts clickable, linking to their Slack profiles.
- Select Automated Recognition Types: In the Automated Programs tab, choose which types of automated recognitions (such as birthdays, onboarding milestones, service awards, and one-time MemoryBooks) you want to be posted in Slack.
- Decide whether these automated recognition posts should follow the rules configured in your Channel Settings tab or be posted to a specific, designated channel.
Setting up Slack Notifications
The Awardco app can send personal notifications to users directly within Slack. This allows individuals to receive alerts for new recognitions they receive.
As an admin, you can enable these notifications for all users from the Awardco platform:
- Select the Admin button at the bottom of the left navigation menu.
- From the left navigation menu, click Integrations, then Integrations Library.
- Click on Slack.
- Navigate to the General Settings tab.
- In the "Notifications" section, toggle the setting to "On."
- This will enable personal notifications from the Awardco App in Slack for all users.
Note: The integration currently only sends Slack push notifications for recognitions received. To prevent users from disabling these notifications, see the Setting Default and Locked Notifications section in the Setting Company Notifications article.
Sending Recognitions in Awardco via Slack
- In the designated Slack channel for recognitions, type /recognize and press Enter.
- A recognition pop-up window will appear, allowing you to search for and select the user(s) you want to recognize.
- After selecting the recipient(s), choose the relevant recognition program.
- Complete the recognition form, including any applicable award value.
- Click Submit to send the recognition in the chosen channel or direct message. If approvals are required, the recognition will be added to the approval queue.
Note: Recognitions sent via direct messages in Slack might not be reflected as private within your Awardco platform.
