Column Clarifications
Here are more detailed explanations for the BASE AMOUNT, BASE AMOUNT (ESTIMATED), USER AMOUNT, and USER AMOUNT (ESTIMATED) columns, including when each is used and how they differ, especially regarding exchange rates (FX) and Purchasing Power Parity (PPP).
-
BASE AMOUNT: The value of the awarded points, displayed in your company’s base currency. No adjustments are applied.
-
How is this different from Base Amount (Estimated)?
- No adjustments are applied—this is the raw value without PPP, regardless of location. BASE AMOUNT will be the same as BASE AMOUNT (ESTIMATED) only if PPP is off. When PPP is on, the two may differ if the recipient is outside the base currency. This often matches the Points Awarded column (unless your platform uses a non-1:1 point ratio).
-
How is this different from Base Amount (Estimated)?
-
BASE AMOUNT (ESTIMATED): The estimated value of the recipient’s points, displayed in the platform’s base currency, with FX and PPP taken into consideration. This value is stamped on the date of awarding.
-
When is this used?
- This value is the estimated amount that will be pulled from the redemption account balance when an employee spends their points. It is always in the base currency. This is most often used for financial forecasting or for clients' tax calculations when employees are awarded.
-
How is this different from Base Amount?
- If your platform doesn't use PPP, both these values will be the same. If your account uses the PPP tool, these values are different. It's essential to understand the financial liability when an award’s recipient is in a different country than the base currency. For this reason, the BASE AMOUNT will be different from the BASE AMOUNT (ESTIMATED) if your platform uses PPP.
-
Does this value calculate Exchange Rate (FX) in addition to PPP?
- Yes. Both FX and PPP are calculated in BASE AMOUNT (ESTIMATED). Note, however, that an FX value is moot for base currency values as there is nothing to exchange. Also, PPP is only applied if that tool is turned on and used (not all clients opt to leverage this tool). This value does not include the platform’s tax buffer, as some redemption options (like gift cards) do not use that system. For an exact value at checkout, use the Points Redeemed report.
-
When is this used?
-
USER AMOUNT: The value of the awarded points, displayed in the recipient’s currency using only the exchange rate (FX) at the time of awarding.
-
How is this different from User Amount (Estimated)?
- Only FX is applied—this is the raw value without PPP, regardless of location. USER AMOUNT will be the same as USER AMOUNT (ESTIMATED) only if PPP is off. When PPP is on, the two may differ if the recipient is outside the base currency.
-
How is this different from User Amount (Estimated)?
-
USER AMOUNT (ESTIMATED): The estimated value of the recipient’s points, displayed in the recipient’s currency, with FX and PPP taken into consideration. This value is stamped on the date of awarding.
-
When is this used?
- This value is the estimated amount the end user sees when they spend their points. This value is most often used by country-specific teams looking to calculate payroll.
-
How is this different from User Amount?
- If your platform doesn't use PPP, both these values will be the same. If your account uses the PPP tool, these values are different. It's essential to understand the financial liability when an award’s recipient is in a different country than the base currency. Key Data Metrics
Right below the data filters you’ll see 4 tiles with the data metrics: People Recognizing, People Recognized, Total Recognitions, Total Points Awarded. People Recognizing shows the total unique givers that have distributed recognitions, while People Recognized displays the total unique receivers of recognitions. All four numbers reflect the time period and any other filters applied in the previous steps.
Recognitions
This section displays total recognitions given in the form of a line graph. The X axis represents the time period selected; in this case the data is from January 1, 2022 to May 16, 2022. The Y axis reflects the number of recognitions given on the presented day, week, month, year etc. The solid line shows real time data and the dotted line represents data from the previous time period. There are three data metrics at the top of the graph that also summarize recognition data: Recognitions Submitted, People Recognizing, and People Recognized. Select any of these three tiles to display their respective information on the graph. You’ll see that percentage growth or decrease is also exhibited; this percentage growth or decrease represents the change in data between the time period selected and the previous time period.
If your organization utilizes hashtags in recognition programs, a Hashtag Usage tile will show. Select this tile to generate a graph showing hashtag usage. Hover over a line or specific point in time to view details about the tag usage.
Points Awarded
This section displays total points awarded in the form of a line graph. The X axis represents the time period selected; in this case the data is from January 1, 2022 to May 16, 2022. The Y axis reflects the number of points given on the presented day, week, month, year etc. The solid line shows real time data and the dotted line represents data from the previous time period. There are four data metrics at the top that also summarize points awarded data: Total Points Awarded, Estimated Value of Points Awarded (value adjusted by PPP/exchange rate), Average Recognition Points, and Average Value of Points Awarded. You’ll see that percentage growth or decrease is also exhibited; this growth or decrease represents the change in data between the time period selected and the previous time period.
Recognition Summary
This section shows a pie chart that summarizes recognition data from different categories presented in the drop-down menu to the right of the graph title. The default view is "Recognition Program" which helps you see the top recognition and automated programs being utilized.
Looking at the drop-down, you can select from a list of the filters applied. For example, selecting “Budget” shows you the percentage of recognitions that come from specific budgets.
