Historically, admins configuring a recognition program could set nomination limits, allowing control over how often a user could receive points or recognitions within a set period. This feature remains useful for individual recognition programs. However, with Global Receiving Limits, you can now set universal limits that apply to all methods of receiving points across the platform. See the article below for further information on Global Receiving Limits, including how to access, configure, and manage these limits, as well as frequently asked questions.

Use Cases
- Company-Wide Limit – Set a maximum number of points per year to stay within budget.
- Tax Implications – Limit points per year to avoid higher tax rates for bonuses over a specific threshold.
- Legal Restrictions – For government agencies, limit points to comply with bonus regulations.
- C-Suite Exclusion – Exclude executives from points-based recognitions.
- Non-Eligible Employees – Exclude part-time, contract, or intern employees.
- Employee Type Tiers – Apply different limits for full-time and part-time employees (e.g., $1,000/year for full-time, $500/year for part-time).
Note: Manual adjustments made to point balances don't count towards/are not halted by global receiving limits.
Accessing the Global Receiving Limits Tool
To access Global Receiving Limits settings:
- Select the Admin button in the upper-right corner of the homepage.
- Click the Settings tab.
- Select Recognition Programs.
Adding Receiving Limits
To create a receiving limit rule:
- Click Add Rule.
- Enter a name for the rule (50 character limit).
- Determine which employees or groups to limit:
- All Users: Applies to all users included in Awardco data imports.
- Selected Users: Search and add a small group of users manually.
- By Role: Limit the rule by specific roles.
- By Metadata: Set limits based on metadata. To do this:
- Select a metadata header from the dropdown menu.
- Choose Is or Is Not from the second dropdown.
- If Is is selected, choose a metadata value in the third dropdown to apply the rule only to that value. If Is Not is selected, the rule will exclude that metadata value.
- Select the appropriate metadata.
- Specify the maximum points an employee in this group can receive in a specific time frame.
- Choose to limit by base platform currency or points.
- Set the limit period: Monthly, Quarterly, Semi-annually, Annually, or Rolling Period.
-
- Applying a rolling date range allows for a flexible timeframe (e.g., a rolling 90-day window) that can start on a custom date, such as January 1st, instead of a static period (e.g., month or quarter).
- Discover the more settings to global receiving limits rule creation by clicking the "Advanced Settings" button.
- Apply receiving limit based on giver type
- Limit points a user can receive from another user - This ensures that one user cannot give an unreasonable number of points to another user.
- Limit points a manager can receive from their direct reports -This mitigates conflicts of interest in the recognition process.
- Limit points a direct report can receive from their manager - This prevents potential favoritism in the recognition process.
- Apply receiving limit based on giver type
- Click Save.
Note: Different types of limited groups cannot be combined within one rule. Create a separate rule for each type of group you wish to limit.
