The Social Feed has the potential to be a powerful platform engagement tool. This article will help you understand how to alter social recognition feed settings to help users filter the feed to see recognitions from the people they directly work with, save views of recognitions pertaining to specific groups, react and engage with recognitions through emojis and comments, and be informed of their peers' upcoming milestones.
Enabling the Social Feed
First, Log In as an Admin.
Click the Admin button in the upper-right corner and you'll be taken to your dashboard. Once you're on your dashboard, click on the Settings tab.
You will be taken to the General page under the Settings column. Click on Feed. Here you can turn Social Recognition On or Off. Your social feed will now reflect these changes for all of your users.
Social Feed Settings
Limited Feed View
Toggle this setting "On" to automatically filter and limit each user's individual feed based on metadata values they share with others in the organization. For example, if you filter the feed by department users will only be able to view recognitions given to users in their same department. Selected the desired metadata limited feed view filter from the drop down menu.
Additional User Context
Toggling this setting "On" adds a metadata identifier under the name of each user on the feed. For example, the department or location each individual is in. Select the desired metadata additional user context filter from the drop down menu.
Feed Filtering
Determine what types of filters individuals are allowed to use on the feed. From the image below we see the only available feed filter is "Tags".
Click "Edit Standard Fields" to add filters. Anything selected will be available as filters on an individual level in the feed. Select "Edit Metadata Fields" to add metadata as filters. Up to five values can be selected. Click "Save" once finished.

Available Feed Saved Views
Define the saved views users have by default. Check the following saved options you wish to have available for users to select:
Peers - Displays recognitions including those with the same manager as the user.
Direct Reports - Displays recognitions including the user's direct reports only.
All Reports - Displays recognitions including any reports below them in hierarchy.
Allow Custom Saved Views - Give individuals permission to save custom filter sets or saved view of the feed.
Feed Engagement
Check the following types of feed engagement items users have access to:
- Reactions - Allows users to react to recognitions with emoticons.
- Comments - Allows users to leave comments on recognitions.
- Enable Delete - Allows users to delete recognitions they have given.
- Print Template - Allows users the ability to generate a recognition in a printable format. Selecting "Edit Template" gives you a view into how the recognition would appear should the employee choose to print it. If you don't have HTML knowledge get in touch with your Awardco point-of-contact to edit this setting. Also, view available templates Awardco can provide you with in this support article.
Upcoming Milestones
Toggle this feature "On" if you'd like to have the upcoming milestones widget displayed on the social feed. Once enabled, add the Upcoming Milestones widget in the Homepage Editor. If you'd like users to only see upcoming milestones of employees with metadata values that match theirs, specify the metadata value in the dropdown menu. Determine the visible milestones using the checkboxes next to each option; possible milestones include Birthdays, New Hires, Service Anniversaries, and MemoryBooks.
All birthdays, new hires, and service anniversaries will show in the widget unless a user has set private recognition to "true" or has opted out of birthdays (only applicable to birthdays). A service anniversary with an attached MemoryBook will appear as a regular service anniversary if the user has opted out of MemoryBooks. One-time MemoryBooks will appear if they are public or if they are private but explicitly marked to show in the widget.
Keep in mind that the widget pulls milestone data from the user file instead of relying on the recognition queue, so there is no need to configure automated awards or refresh the queue. The only milestone type still based on the recognition queue is one-time MemoryBooks.
The checkboxes under all the options allow you to determine if events marked as "private" will show in the widget. If a user has private recognition enabled, none of their events will appear. This option helps balance visibility without overwhelming the feed with automated recognitions while ensuring important milestones remain accessible.
Note: New hires only show in the widget on their hire date. If new hires are included in the user file prior to their hire date, they will queue up in advance.
"My Recognitions" Classic View
Toggle this feature "On" if you'd like all users to see a tab on the homepage labeled "My Recognitions" that only displays recognitions that pertain to each individual. We recommend leaving this off for a more engaging social feed experience.
Pinned Recognitions
Toggling this option "On" adds a widget that highlights selected recognitions in a carousel at the top of the feed. Only recognitions manually pinned by authorized individuals will appear. Additionally, you can configure the following:
- Widget Title: The title displayed for the pinned recognitions carousel.
- Default Pin Duration: The default length of time a recognition will remain pinned.
- Order Pins By: Choose whether to order pinned recognitions by their pinned date or randomly.
- Who can pin recognitions: This setting is configured in the Roles and Permissions tool
Once a recognition is pinned, authorized users can adjust its pinned duration and visibility by specifying metadata.
While the pinned recognition carousel can hold up to 2500 items, its value decreases as the volume increases, requiring users to wait for rotation or click through numerous pins.
The table below (within the admin portal) allows admins to unpin all pinned recognitions or change the duration and/or visibility settings of individual pinned recognitions.
